Proxmox VE course

Two days with the people who run Proxmox VE clusters in production every day. The work happens on a real cluster, not a lab that pretends to be one.

Who it is for

Administrators who have to install and keep Proxmox VE running, teams coming from VMware who want to know what actually changes, and companies holding a cluster somebody else built and never documented.

Two levels

Foundation

Starting from nothing, or close to it.

  • installing and configuring a node
  • virtual machines and containers: when each one is the right answer
  • local storage: ZFS, LVM, directories
  • networking, VLANs and the built-in firewall
  • backup and restore, with Proxmox Backup Server
  • users, permissions and authentication

Advanced

A node already running, and a cluster to build.

  • clustering: quorum, dedicated network, what happens when a node fails
  • high availability: configuring it, and testing it before production
  • shared storage and replication
  • live migration between nodes
  • version upgrades without stopping production
  • diagnosis: reading the logs and finding where a problem starts

The programme adapts. The outline above is a starting point, not a script. Before we begin we find out where people are starting from: if your engineer already knows half the foundation material, that half goes and the time is spent on the rest.

Why us

We are a Proxmox Silver Partner and run our clients' Proxmox VE clusters every day. What we teach happened to us: the upgrades that went wrong, the clusters inherited without documentation, the networks that looked fine and were not. It is not a syllabus learned in order to teach it.

What we work with

  • Official Proxmox partner — see our entry on the Proxmox site
  • Ceph in production

How it runs

In our classroom

Workstations ready and a cluster to actually work on.

At your site

On your systems and your cases. It is how people learn most.

Online

When people are in different places, or time is short.

There is a Ceph course too

Distributed storage needs room of its own: design, operation and recovery, backed by the Red Hat certification.
